Delhi: Hafiz Saeed is now overseeing attacks by the dreaded terror group Islamic State or the ISIS fighters in Afghanistan.
This was reported by ANI who quoted the US radio channel, Voice of America as saying that the revelation on Saeed was made in a statement released by the Afghan Defence Ministry.
The official made the revelation during trilateral high-level military meeting between Afghanistan, Pakistan and NATO officials.
However, the Afghan Defence Ministry’s assertions about Saeed has created confusion in Pakistan.
Reporters and Pakistani officials reportedly tried to determine whether the Afghan officials were confusing Saeed with an ISIS commander, who shares his same name.
The head of ISIS' local branch in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP) is also named Hafiz Saeed Khan.
But he is not said to be related to the JuD leader.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the Afghan side is believed to have called on Islamabad to prevent ISIS terrorists from entering Afghanistan.
On the other hand, Saeed has claimed that a LeT 'ameer' was leading the funeral procession of Hizbul 'commander' Burhan Wani. who was killed in an encounter in Kashmir.
"Burhan Wani was martyred. Lakhs of Kashmiris came to the streets to attend his funeral. Did you see a man who was being carried on shoulders by the crowd? Do you know this youth who was leading the procession? Do you know who he is? He is 'ameer' of LeT," said Saeed, the founder of Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT), as per PTI.
His statement Abu Dujana was leading Wani's funeral procession earlier this month was made at a rally in Faisalabad, about 185 km from Lahore.
Saeed, designated a terrorist by the United States with a USD 10 million bounty on his head, heads the Jamaat-ud-Dawa ( JuD), which is seen as a front group for the outlawed LeT.
The LeT was behind the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and was banned in Pakistan in 2015.
Saeed, who travels freely and gives speeches inciting people to attack Western and Indian interests, had warned more violence in Kashmir in a recent interview.
