New Delhi: As our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 65 on Thursday, celebrations are underway across the country to wish him in unique and special ways. While politicians from India and abroad greeted him on his 65th birthday, children in a school in Siliguri dressed up as Narendra Modi to wish the PM.
Micro-blogging site Twitter floated balloons to wish the dynamic leader as he turned 64 today.
Interestingly, in his home state Gujarat, locals offered over 6000 kg of laddoos to Lord Ganesh to mark the occasion while in Bundelkhand, a huge cloth with messages from school children wishing PM Modi on his birthday was unfurled.
Here are five things you should know about the technocrat leader of the world's most populous democracy. Other than the fact that his website allows you to send him a virtual birthday wish.
1) A Poet
Before he was quoting Star Wars in speeches, Modi let his creative side flow in a diary, which was eventually released as a book of 19 poems titled 'Saakshi Bhav'.
Sample this: "The subject of my new responsibilities/ That had led to a storm in the outside world/ Has almost died down./ Everyone's surprise, questions, etc are now coming to an end/ Now the expectations will begin/ The extent and severity of the expectations will be great/ The creation of my new self is also at an end now."
2) A Workaholic
Surprisingly true. Our beloved Prime Minister clocks in just about 4 hours of sleep every night. In a Google Hangout session hosted on his website, the BJP leader had claimed to get all that considerable energy from just 3.5-4 hours of sleep.
3) A Twitter Giant
With an ever increasing fan base of 14.5 million, PM Modi is next only to US President Barack Obama, who cherishes Twitter army of 64 million.
4) A Globetrotter
PM Modi is an ardent traveller. Ever since he took charge as the PM, Modi has visited 27 countries and is scheduled to visit another 10 over the next year.
5) A Failed Monk
When he was young, PM Modi wanted to become a monk and he did everything he could to get associated with the Ramakrishna Mission, but was turned down thrice. However, he had spent his entire life like a wanderer with a deep faith in Yoga and Ayurveda.
