New Delhi: In view of rising number of commuters at metro stations, Delhi Metro Rail Corporations has come out with new guidelines to control the rush. The new rule will be effective from January 11, 2015 onwards.
According to the new rules, the maximum time limit of stay on station premises permissible to commuters will be in accordance with the length of their journey, come January 11.
As per the new rules, a passenger buying a ticket of Rs 18 can stay inside the metro premises for 65 minutes. Similarly, for those buying tickers costing Rs 19-23 can stay within the metro system for 100 minutes; 180 minutes will be granted to people with tickets of above Rs 23.
The maximum permissible time limited to stay inside the premises at present is 170 minutes, which has now been increased to 180 minutes, i.e. 3 hours. Initially, those found violating the time limit will be imposed a fine of Rs 10 per hours, up to maximum Rs 50, from February 1 onwards. An official statement regarding the same will be made on Monday.
Every month over lakh people are fined for overstaying in the system by exceeding the time limit, said DMRC. Last year in July, at least 118916 passengers were penalized for overstaying inside the premises while in December the same year, 108513 passengers were fined, said the DMRC.
