New Delhi: Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Monday said that women safety is a key concern for Delhi Police and extra security personnel have been deployed in this regard.
"A total of 13,548 women personnel have been deployed in the city to address complaints and safety concerns of women," Bassi said. He was addressing the Delhi Police’s Annual Press Conference here and said, "There is a need to change our mindsets to maximise safety of women in the society."
Talking about increasing number of rapes in the city, the top cop said that if law permits Delhi Police, they won't consider twice before shooting rapists. "We are always worried about safety of women. It will be our pleasure to shoot or hang accused in cases of crime against women if law permits us," said Bassi. He added further, "90 percent of our cases went unattended because policemen used to hide truth. I have ensured that no police officer hides any truth in this regard."
Don't expect any help from Delhi government
Taking a dig at Delhi government, Bassi urged the young police officers to take the issue of women security forward as he doesn't expect any kind of help from the state government. "It is fortunate that Delhi Police is not under the state government."
Elimate crime from roots
"Female taxis were started in Delhi in January 2015 keeping in mind the safety of women passengers in the city. It is better to eliminate crime from roots than to run after criminals," Bassi said.
Information to be made online
Announcing that Delhi Police has taken a slew of measures to address the issue, Bassi said technology has been efficiently used to enhance the force’s efficiency. Citizens will now be able to register as well as check the status of their complaints online.
