The MTCR membership will allow India to export hi-tech missiles to other nations as well as buy predator drones from America, NDTV reported.

An announcement in this regard may happen during PM Modi's visit to the US, it added.

India had applied for MTCR membership last year but “faced strong opposition from some countries”, the report added.

The Obama administration is reportedly backing India's membership to MTCR, which was set up in 1987 with an aim to limit the spread of ballistic missiles.

India is also seeking a berth in the 28-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), which will reportedly meet next week to consider its application.
