New Delhi: An Indian woman and her seven-year-old daughter who were allegedly dumped at refugee camp in Germany last year in the pretext of reuniting them with their family have finally been rescued.
The woman, identified only with her first name Gurpreet, had pleaded the Indian government with ''folded hands” to bring them back home, months after they were taken to the foreign land.
Putting out the good news External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday tweeted: "We have brought Gurpreet and her 8 year old daughter from the refugee camp to our Consulate in Frankfurt."
Gurpreet alleged that two of her relatives had advised her to go to Germany if she wants to meet her long lost husband and her in-laws there.
However, little she had known that it was the beginning of her long drawn ordeal. Immediately after reaching Germany, she was allegedly dumped at a refugee camp in Frankfurt.
After spending months at the camp, she decided to make a video of herself narrating her ordeal and posted it on the social media.
Luckily, the video came to the notice of one of the ZEE News viewers who then forwarded it to the channel.
After which, the channel traced the victim's home in Faridabad, Haryana and met with her family members.
When the news spread, the Indian External Affairs Ministry has come forward to help the mother and her daughter.
Sushma Swaraj in a tweet had said that she had already received a report on Gurpreet from the Indian consulate in Frankfurt and her ministry would do all it can to help her out.
The Indian consulate had also spoken to Gurpreet's father and promised them all help in the matter.
In the video Gurpreet said: “I urge the Indian government to take me back to India as soon as possible. My in-laws have cheated me. They sent me to Germany fraudulently and put me in a refugee camp. I am living here with my seven-year-old daughter. I want to come back to India. I will tell my rest of the story after reaching India. I will tell you what my in-laws have done to me.”
