Delhi: Fugitive underworld don Chhota Rajan was arrested in Indonesia on Monday on intelligence inputs provided by Indian agencies, as per reports on Monday.
Reports also said that Union Minister VK Singh had gone to Indonesia two days back regarding Rajan's arrest.
However, there is no official confirmation to the same.
The only confirmation that came today was from Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who said that the man arrested in Indonesia was indeed fugitive Chhota Rajan.
Rajnath also said that after verification necessary action will be taken against Rajan.
At the same time Singh thanked Interpol and Indonesian government for Rajan's arrest.
“India was active on this case, post verification investigation will be taken forward,” Rajnath said, as per ANI.
On the other hand, MoS Home Kiren Rijiju said, “There is a close coordination between India, Australia and Indonesia in this matter.”
“CBI is the nodal agency for Interpol in India. Now the further process will be taken forward by CBI,” he added.
Rajan, wanted in over a series of murders in India, was arrested in Indonesia after decades on the run.
Indonesian authorities detained Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, alias 'Chhota Rajan' yesterday as he arrived in the popular resort island of Bali from Sydney, Bali police spokesman Heri Wiyanto told AFP.
Meanwhile, Indonesian authorities said today they will deport Rajan shortly.
He said police were questioning Rajan in Bali police headquarter in Denpasar, the provincial capital, and coordinating with Indian diplomats for a deportation process.
He held an Indian passport when he arrived in Denpasar, about 968 kilometres east of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
Rajan told Indonesian police that he had been hiding in Australia for seven years and flew to Bali by a Garuda Indonesia flight for vacation.
