New Delhi/Islamabad: Pakistani reporter Chand Nawab, who became famous after a video clip of his unintentionally hilarious reporting went viral and later inspired a character in Bollywood film 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', was allegedly beaten up at the Karachi railway station by the police.
According to Pakistan's ARY News, Nawab, who is a reporter with 92 News Channel, had reportedly arrived at Karachi Cantt Station with his team to cover a story on the alleged black marketing of train tickets. But as soon as the railway officials and police officers came to know about the matter, they thrashed and manhandled Chand Nawab along with his cameraman and other team members at Karachi Cantt Station.
Shortly after the incident took place, the video of Chand Nawab being beaten up went viral on social media, and became a trending topic on twitter in Pakistan on Tuesday.
Several netizens expressed anger at the authorities for the treatment of the popular TV reporter.
Meanwhile, as per Nawab's news channel, Sindh minister Nisar Khuhro ordered a probe into the matter after taking note of the incident. The incident has also been reported to Pakistan Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.
Notably, six years ago Chand Nawab became an Internet sensation when some of his colleagues from a TV channel had uploaded a video showing him recording a piece-to-camera at the same Karachi Railway station as people left for Eid holidays. The video showed Nawab being constantly interrupted by commuters walking across the camera, forcing him to repeat the same line several times.
