Amritsar: Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, chief Parliamentary Secretary and Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Amritsar East, on Friday announced her resignation on Facebook.
Earlier, reports said that he announcement on Facebook was April Fools' Day prank. However, her next post cleared the air.
Notably, Navjot Kaur, who along with her husband, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, had been upset with BJP's Punjab unit as well as the Shiromani Akali Dal leadership.
Here is what she posted on Facebook:
A popular Jat-Sikh face, Navjot Singh Sidhu had to pay the price for his run-ins with Punjab's dominant Badal family when he was dumped by the BJP in the 2014 General Elections. There were rumours that the cricketer-turned-politician could leave the party ahead of Assembly Elections in Punjab. His wife's resignation from the party has come as a shock. This move has given impetus to speculations Sidhu will also quit BJP and the couple may join Aam Aadmi Party.
