It's time for Muslims to rise and protest against some Hindutva forces: Azam Khan

New Delhi: In what can be seen as an attempt to fan communal tensions over Dadri lynching incident, senior Samajwadi Party leader and UP Cabinet minister Azam Khan on Wednesday said it is time for the Muslim community to rise and protest against a few Hindutva forces attempting to turn Hindustan into a Hindu Rashtra.

According to The Times of India report, Khan during an official function in Lucknow said that during Independence, Muslims opted for India and did not go for Islamic State as they had their belief in India's secular structure.

“Certain forces are trying to change this structure. The world is watching the changes India has undergone from Babri to Dadri,” he said.

“It is time for the Muslim community to rise and protest the attempt of a few Hindutva forces to turn Hindustan into a Hindu Rashtra,” he was quoted as saying by TOI.

Further advising the minority community to not to resort to non-violent means, Azam said, “Fire cannot put off fire, but we have to stop those forces trying to tamper with India's secular structure.”

Azam was lately in limelight when he declared that he will approach the United Nations to seek justice over Dadri lynching incident.

Asserting that the Dadri incident is no less than the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, Khan had said that the RSS and the BJP have declared that they will create 'Hindu Rashtra'.

Khan had also said that he will raise the rising cases of communal violence in the UN.

“Our approaching the UN is not going against India but we are appealing to the UN. I have sought audience with secretary general of the UN,” he had said.
