Chennai: AIADMK today telecast live the maiden rally of party supremo Jayalalithaa for the upcoming Assembly polls through giant LED screens mounted on specially designed campaign vans in 75 locations in the state.
The giant LED screen mounted vans brought live the address of Jayalalithaa to people across 21 Assembly constituencies in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts.
Jayalalithaa introduced all the 21 party candidates in and around Chennai and sought votes for them, including her. She also called upon people to ensure their victory with a great margin and the local party supporters who gathered near the vans raised slogans of support.
She detailed the development works carried out in all the 21 constituencies. "You voted us to power in 2011 to end family rule and to make Tamil Nadu pursue the path of development. Vote for us so that the good regime continues."
The vans were stationed at vantage locations like markets and busy intersections since the morning. Before the start of her address, the achievements of AIADMK regime were screened.
Vintage film songs of MGR and Jayalalithaa were played as well. Such songs of MGR had "messages" on the importance of working for the interests of the people and abstaining from alcohol.
Jayalalithaa's portrait with MGR adorned the vans.
The rally in Island Grounds here is the first of 14 such events planned between today and May 12 across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Jayalalithaa is scheduled to address rallies in key cities and towns in all the districts to seek votes for her party and seven allies.
In the rally today, only Jayalalithaa was seated on the dais and all other party candidates sat on a specially put up platform beneath the rally stage. Her confidante V Sasikala was seated in the front row in the audience.
A number of women attended the rally waving images of Jayalalithaa embossed on propaganda material modelled like hand-fans.
Notably, Jayalalithaa did not make references to any other political party excpet the DMK. In the meeting venue, the backdrop of the dias and other propoganda materials were green, a colour believed to be her favourite.
Meanwhile, AIADMK today opened election offices in all the 227 constituencies it is contesting in. In Jayalalithaa's RK Nagar constituency, the election office was opened in Tondiarpet by party senior leader Aadi Rajaram and District Secretary P Vetrivel.
Prayers and lighting of traditional lamp marked the opening of the office in the constituency. The party also began door-to-door canvassing across Tamil Nadu today.
