Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) founder Amanullah Khan passed away at Rawalpindi in Pakistan on Tuesday morning. He was 82.

Amanullah Khan succumbed to a chronic lung disease after fighting with it for a year.

His son-in-law Sajjad Lone told news agency IANS: "He was seriously ill for the past three weeks. My wife Asma Khan and our children were with him. He died early today in Rawalpindi."

The funeral prayers of the deceased will take place at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi, on Wednesday, at 11:00 am.

Born in Astore area of Gilgit on August 24, 1934, Amanullah Khan went to Srinagar in 1940 to explore educational opportunities.

After clearing his Matric exam from Kashmir University in 1950 and subsequently attending SP College and Amar Singh College in Srinagar, Khan migrated to Pakistan in 1952.

He was the co-founder of the Kashmir Independent Committee in 1963 and also elected Secretary General of the JK Plebiscite Front (PF) in 1965.

JKLF chairman Yasin Malik had earlier this month expressed concern over Khan`s deteriorating health and appealed to the people of Kashmir to pray for his speedy recovery.
