Hyderabad: The Pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Jayendra Saraswathi, was rushed to a hospital in Vijayawada, following a spurt in his blood pressure on Tuesday.
The Seer, who was taken to hospital in an unconscious state, was put on ventilator by the doctors.
His condition is stated to be stable now.
The seer has been camping in Vijayawada for the past few days overseeing the 'Chaturmasya Deeksha', a four-month religious ritual.
As the news of Swami Jayendra Saraswathi's condition spread, several VIPs and hundreds of supporters gathered at the hospital.
Fearing law and order problem, huge number of police personnel have been deployed.
Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham was established by Sri Adi Sankara in the year 482 BC (see About and History) and has the distinction of an unbroken line of 70 acharyas (spiritual leaders).
Earlier this year, the Kanchi Sankaracharya and eight others were acquitted of all charges, including attempt to murder, in the 2002 the auditor Radhakrishnan assault case.
Jayendra Saraswathi, 80, who was the prime accused, Kanchi Mutt Manager Sundaresa Iyer and junior pontiff Vijayendra Saraswati's brother Raghu faced the main charge of criminal conspiracy and read with it, the charges of attempt to murder and abetment.
In 2013, the Sankaracharya and his junior were acquitted by a Puducherry court in the case related to the September, 2004 murder of Kancheepuram Varadaraja temple manager Sankararaman.
The seer was charged with hatching criminal conspiracy to do away with Sankararaman as he had 'exposed' alleged irregularities in the mutt, but the court acquitted him and others.
