Khalistan Liberation Front chief Harminder Singh Mintoo made several phone calls to Pakistan from Nabha jail: Report

Delhi: Even as Parminder Singh, the alleged 'mastermind' of the daring daylight jailbreak in Punjab was shifted to a high-security prison in Muzaffarnagar district on Tuesday, it has come to the fore that Khalistan Liberation Force chief Harminder Singh Mintoo had made calls to Pakistan while he was lodged in the Nabha jail.

India Today quoted sources as saying that investigating agencies are now going through his call details to ascertain where exactly he made those calls.

The KLF militant was frequently using skype to contact his Pakistani handlers and he may have made those calls to Khalistan movement sympathiser.

The media house further quoted sources as saying that Mintoo may even have called some ISI operatives in Pakistan.

Singh along with Mintoo and four other prisoners had escaped after 'armed men in police uniform' stormed the high-security Nabha prison at Patiala in Punjab on November 27.

Singh was arrested from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on the day itself when the getaway vehicle was stopped at a police picket.

On the other hand, Mintoo was arrested from Nizamuddin railway station's parking area in the national capital on Sunday night within hours of his escape from Nabha jail, with Delhi Police saying he was planning to flee abroad, to Malaysia or Germany.

He was carrying a sophisticated semi-automatic pistol along with six live cartridges when he was arrested, Arvind Deep, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police's Special Cell, told reporters.

Mintoo was produced before a court here which sent him to seven days' police custody.

Earlier, he was arrested by Punjab Police after he was deported from Thailand in November 2014. He was wanted in ten terror cases.

The KLF chief was brought to India along with his key aide Gurpeet Singh 'Gopi' after Punjab Police, in coordination with central agencies, traced them in Thailand.
