New Delhi: As the nation celebrates Mahashivratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion.

The Prime Minister took to twitter to greet the nation. 

"Maha Shivratri greetings to everyone. (sic),"

A large number of devotees thronged the Lord Shiva temples since early morning.

Maha Shivratri is celebrated on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun (February or March) every year. It is believed that Lord Shiva was married to Goddess Parvati on this day.
