A doctor has been hailed a hero after saving the life of a fellow passenger on an airliner on Wednesday morning.

New Delhi: A doctor has been hailed a hero after saving the life of a fellow passenger on an airliner on Wednesday morning.

Dr Monik Mehta was on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Mumbai when he came to know about the medical condition of Saurabh Sharma mid-air.

Saurabh Sharma had a cardiac rhythm arrest and he was limping on his seat. Later, he had stopped responding.

Dr Mehta resorted to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly known as CPR, after no pulse was found.

Meanwhile, the airliner brought in oxygen and defibrillator to deliver therapeutic electric shock to the heart of the patient.

The patient finally responded to the CPR.

Saurabh started breathing again within 15 minutes. Once the plane landed in Mumbai, the patient was taken for further medical help.

Dr Mehta, a cardiologist at Gurgaon-based Artemis Hospital, said the IndiGo flight that was fully equipped with all the safety measures.

Notably, cardiac arrest occurring on board aeroplanes is rare, but remains a common cause of inflight incidents.
