Agra: In the wake of the controversy over beef consumption, this piece of news will surely raise eyebrows.
According to former Delhi High Court chief justice Rajinder Sachar, beef trade in India has involvement of more Hindus than Muslims.
Justice Sachar, who was the chairman of a committee that recommended reservation for Muslims in 2006, made the remarks during an international conference on radical Islam held at RC Degree College in Mathura on Friday, as per the Times of India.
The conference had in attendance scholars and delegates from India, Canada, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and other countries.
Many teachers and participants at the conference walked out of the venue in protest against Justice Sachar's remarks.
Justice Sachar said, "Almost 95% beef traders are Hindus. Still, a man was lynched in Dadri because he ate beef. This is the death of mankind and humanity. Eating habits have nothing to do with religion. Even I can eat beef."
The remarks are not going to go down well with right-wing groups who have been protesting against consumption of beef in the recent past.
