New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stressed on the need of empowering women for the development of the country. While addressing the valedictory session of National Conference of Women Legislators in New Delhi, Modi said women should be strengthened more for a stronger India.

"Infrastructure, roads or budget alone does not strengthen any nation, but its citizens and mothers make any nation strong. However big architecture one is, but it is women who decide how her home would look like at the end, I want women to contribute same way for the nation," said PM Modi.

"Technology plays a big role in an individual's life. I think that woman have more ability to adapt to technology than men. I feel the need in change of mindset about women empowerment. You empower those who are not empowered. Those who are already strong, empowered do not need empowerment," added the PM.

The conference, hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan , is being attended by former President Pratibha Patil , Union ministers Sushma Swaraj, Najma Heptullah and Maneka Gandhi, Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel, former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, among others.

President Pranab Mukherjee had yesterday pitched in for a revival of the Constitution (108th Amendment) Bill, aimed at giving 33 per cent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The President also lauded Prime Minister Modi for the "Beti bachao, beti padhao" initiative.

"The PM is giving more than an hour (to the inaugural function where he was not even scheduled to speak) without participating in it; that shows his total commitment," he said.
