New Delhi: Shahid Rafi, son of the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, Monday, denied giving a statement that Muslim community feels insecure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Shahid said, he neither said that Muslims were insecure in the country or mentioned PM Modi's name, while speaking on the sidelines of the third edition of the Taj Literature festival.

Shahid who joined the Congress last month, allegedly said, “Muslims feel threatened under this government. Whether it’s the crackdown on Jawaharlal Nehru University students or the attack on minorities, the situation is disturbing.

The legendary singer's son who had a brief stint with Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) also denied making any comments on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) row.

Earlier with the AIMIM for whom he contested the Mumbadevi assembly segment in south Mumbai in the Maharashtra assembly elections, he said he preferred the Congress as it is a secular and democratic party.

He also reiterated his demand for the Bharat Ratna for his father.
