Taking note of news reports that private schools are not complying with the requirements of Right to Education Act, a Parliamentary panel has asked the Union HRD ministry to carry out ground assessment of such schools across the country.

New Delhi: Taking note of news reports that private schools are not complying with the requirements of Right to Education Act, a Parliamentary panel has asked the Union HRD ministry to carry out ground assessment of such schools across the country.

In its 280th report related to the Department of School Education and Literacy, which was tabled in the Parliament today, the panel said that there have been news reports of private schools not complying with the requirements of Right to Education Act.

It asked the Department to carry out a ground assessment of such schools across the country to ensure that responsibilities of schools are also met and children belonging to economically weaker sections can also get a chance to catch up with the society.

In the report, the panel also observed that there are still around 60 lakh children who are "out of school".

"The committee is aware of the proposal to give specific targets to states to enrol these children under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and recommends that the Department must come up with innovative and out of the box solutions to improve the reach of the SSA," the panel said in its report.
