NIA not satisfied with Gurdaspur SP Salwinder's response, may ask him to face polygraph test

NIA is not satisfied with Gurdaspur Superintendent of Police Salwinder Singh`s responses following extensive interrogation, an official of Ministry of Home Affairs said on Tuesday.

New Delhi: National Investigative Agency (NIA) is not satisfied with Gurdaspur Superintendent of Police Salwinder Singh`s responses following extensive interrogation, an official of Ministry of Home Affairs said on Tuesday.

The interrogation of the top cop is likely to conclude today, the official added.

Singh reached the NIA office for the second consecutive day today for questioning in connection with the Pathankot airbase terror attack case.

The NIA had yesterday questioned the Gurdaspur SP at its headquarters in New Delhi.

Singh had been summoned by the NIA on Friday to appear before it for detailed interrogation.

The Home Ministry in a statement yesterday said that Salwinder`s jeweller friend Rajesh Verma and cook Madan Gopal have also been questioned and would be called again for questioning, if needed.

"The NIA teams have continued to question SP Salwinder Singh`s friend Rajesh Verma as well as his cook Madan Gopal in Punjab. Madan Gopal will be called for questioning at the NIA headquarters in Delhi and the date of his questioning will be intimated in due course," it added.

Intelligence agencies are also not ruling out the possibility of Salwinder becoming a fall guy in drug peddling racket that is rampant in Punjab. They are also examining through the past call data record (CDR) of Salwinder Singh to know about any possible links to the drug mafia.

In the meantime, a 10-member NIA team headed by a DIG has found more evidence from the crime scene during its search operation that includes one magazine of AK-47, a mobile phone and a binocular, said union home ministry.

A black corner notice is also being issued to the Interpol to establish the identities of four slain terrorists. The step would increase pressure on Pakistan to provide information about the terrorists in question, sources said.

Seven security personnel died in the attack on the IAF base in Pathankot, located 250 km from Chandigarh, by five Pakistan-backed terrorists.
