New Delhi: In a recognition to its social commitments and positive journalism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Zee News for its programme on solar energy.
While taking about the importance of clean fuel during his regular radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi mentioned one of the news report telecasted on Zee News.
In its report on Novemeber 25, Zee news had telecasted the story of Noorjahan from Kanpur, who rents out solar lanterns to families of ten neighbouring villages. People takes the lanterns in the evening and return it to Noorjahan again next morning for charging.
Noorjahan gets Rs 100 per month for every lantern.

Her initiative has not only made her family financially dependent but neighbouring villages are no more dependent on electricity supply for their homes.
Prime Minister's emphasis on solar energy holds importance in the backdrop of scheduled Climate Conference in Paris on Monday. Modi is expected to speak on steps taken by India to reduce its carbon footprint and on serious consequences of the global warming.
According to reports, an international agreement on climate change is likely to emerge from the 21st Conference of Parties of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris.
