New Delhi: Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi on Friday paid tributes to the nation`s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 52nd death anniversary.

"Remembering Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary," Modi said in a tweet.

Ansari and Sonia visited Nehru`s memorial Shanti Van on Friday and participated in the morning prayers after offering their tributes.


Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in his tributes to Nehru said: "Nehruji`s thoughts, his vision and the values he sought to uphold in his political life and that of the nation will continue to guide and inspire us."

Other prominent leaders including former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, Ahmad Patel and CP Joshi also visited Shanti Van to offer their tributes.

"We pay tribute to India`s first and longest serving prime minister on his death anniversary," said the twitter handle of the Congress party.

"Nehru, was a man of vision, who taught a young and independent India to be self confident and self-reliant," it added.
