Lucknow: A day after two trucks of stones arrived in Ayodhya, for the construction of Ram temple, Babri Action Committee lawyer Zafaryab Jilani on Monday described it as purely a political activity and having no religious impact.
Jilani maintained that according to Supreme Court no construction can be done in the disputed 67 acre of land, where (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) wishes to build a grand 'Ram Mandir'.
He termed it as a political stunt saying that as 2017 Uttar Pradesh are nearing, some Hindu groups are doing all this for political mileage.
Taking note of Mahant Nritya Gopal Das' statement (We have signals from Modi Government that Mandir construction would be done now), the Babri Action Committee lawyer accused the president of Ram Janam Bhumi Nyas trying to reap political gains with such remarks.
VHP spokesman Sharad Sharma said that two trucks of stones have been unloaded at Ram Sewak Puram and Ramjanmabhoomi Trust's Mahant Nritya Gopal Das has performed ‘Shila Pujan’ of the stones.
Giving positive signals to the possible construction of the temple, Das said, “Now, the time has come for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Lot of stones arrived today in Ayodhya. And now the arrival of stones will continue. We have signals from Modi Government that Mandir construction would be done now.”
The Uttar Pradesh government has sought a "confidential" report from Intelligence Department on two stone-laden trucks arriving in Ayodhya six months after the VHP announced a nationwide drive to collect stones for construction of Ram temple.
