Guru Ravidas Jayanti: PM Modi visits saint's temple in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ravidas temple in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi on Monday. After spending sometime in the temple the PM proceeded to address the Banaras Hindu University 's (BHU) centennial year convocation function.

PM Modi will fly back to Delhi after attending the function at BHU.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is also scheduled to visit Ravidas temple this afternoon. During his stay at the temple for about two hours, he is likely to meet the followers of the great saint.

This will be Kejriwal's first visit to the city after 2014 Lok Sabha polls, where he lost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The PM and AAP chief's visit to the city on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti is seen as an attempt to woo the saint's followers know as Ravidasia Sikhs, which mostly include Sikhs from several parts of the country,  ahead of Punjab Assembly polls next year.

This Year marks the 639th Birth Anniversary of Guru Ravidas.
