RSS all set for dramatic makeover: Designer clothes to replace khaki shorts!

New Delhi: A dramatic makeover is on the cards for the members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the right-wing group planning to replace its traditional khaki shorts with designer clothes.

According to a report in HT, RSS will take a final call on the planned makeover in March at its Pratinidhi Sabha in March at Nagaur in Rajasthan.

The report further said that its senior leaders are mulling over three colour options for the trousers – blue, grey and brown.

The organisation will also rope in fashion designers for the makeover with an eye on the Gen Next crowd.

The makeover is reportedly part of RSS’ plan to woo the young populace.

“Some felt that khaki shorts should be replaced for modernising the dress code. A detailed discussion was held, and the suggestion may turn into reality at last,” the report quoted an RSS functionary as saying.

The organisation has reportedly set up an informal committee to consult with professional designers regarding the new designs for the trousers.

The present dress code for RSS volunteers consists of a black cap, a full-sleeved white shirt, khaki shorts, a canvas belt and shoes.

“We have been planning this for nearly a decade. The matter was discussed extensively during a meeting at Ranchi in November. It will also be taken up at the forthcoming conclave at Nagaur, Rajasthan, for a final decision,” another RSS member said.

The last change in the RSS’ dress code came about in 2010, when leather belts were replaced by canvas belts.
