Sanskrit in IITs: AAP mocks Smriti Irani, says 'declare Java, C++ anti-national'

New Delhi: Union Minister Smriti Irani has come under fire for asking the Indian Institutes of Technology to teach Sanskrit language for facilitating the study of science and technology as reflected in its literature.

Mocking Irani's “request”, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, on Tuesday said computer language should be declared "anti-national".

A panel, chaired by former CEC, N Gopalaswami, had suggested in a report that IITs may facilitate study of science and technology as reflected in Sanskrit literature with the inter-disciplinary study of Sanskrit and modern subjects, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Monday.

“Accordingly, IITs have been requested to teach Sanskrit language especially with reference to study of works that contain scientific knowledge,” Irani had said.
