According to a report in the Economic Times, the central government plans to have India's own 'Sex Offenders Registry' through Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project which links the criminal records of 20,000 police stations across the country online.

The portal will reportedly include names, photos, address and crime details of all offenders.

US also has similar National Sex Offender Public website and the project seems to be inspired from it, the report further stated.

After the brutal 'Nirbhaya' gang-rape in 2013, the UPA government had also planned to launch such a website but the project could not materialise.
