Shan-e-Punjab Express, which was flagged-off by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday, has become the first Indian train fitted with CCTV surveillance cameras.

New Delhi: Shan-e-Punjab Express, which was flagged-off by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday, has become the first Indian train fitted with CCTV surveillance cameras.

Notably, according to a Government of India, Ministry of Railways, press release, the surveillance systems while monitoring security shall not compromise on privacy of the rail passengers.

Four to six cameras have been installed inside each coach which 'Digital Video Recorder', the release added.

Speaking on the occasion, Prabhu had said that the government’s top priority was providing safety and security to train passengers especially women and fitting surveillance cameras in the coaches was one of the measures. The dimension of security was changing and it was time to look at different.

Referring to the Shan-e-Punjab train becoming the first train fitted with surveillance security cameras, Prabhu had also pointed out that it will prove to be an example of Shan-e-Safety also.

 

The official twitter handle of Ministry of Railways on Saturday tweeted a picture of one of the coaches of the camera fitted train.
