Six killed as liquor vend collapses in Chandigarh; rescue operations on
At least six people were killed when a liquor vend and tavern building collapsed in Chandigarh`s Sector 26 on Monday.
Chandigarh: At least six people were killed when a liquor vend and tavern building collapsed in Chandigarh's Sector 26 on Monday.
Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sukhchain Singh Gill told media that six people were killed when they got trapped under the collapsed building.
Some other victims were feared trapped under the debris of the building.
Six other injured were admitted to hospitals.
The roof of the liquor vend building, located in the city's Transport Area, collapsed and people inside were trapped, police said.
Rescue operations were being carried out.
The liquor vend building, according to the police, collapsed due to illegal construction activity being done in an adjoining plot. Earth was being dug in the adjoining plot to build a basement.
Gill said that a case would be registered against the owners of the plot where the illegal construction activity was taking place.
