New Delhi: Raising the issue of alleged sting video showing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders accepting bribe, the CPI (M) on Wednesday alleged that a political match fixing was going on between the ruling party in West Bengal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government at the Centre.
"We asked the chair to comment on this. The chair said we cannot give orders and asked the government to respond on it. There was no response from the government. This again proves that a political match fixing is going on between the BJP and the TMC," CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury told the media here.
"We went to the well of the House demanding to uphold the prestige of the House. This is the responsibility of the House to see to it that action is taken on the ministers, who have been allegedly involved in bribing," he added.
Yechury further stated that the government took initiatives regarding the case involving liquor baron Vijay Mallya but it is silent over the bribery case.
"A TMC member of the Rajya Sabha is also involved in the bribery case, so why is the House not referring it to the Ethics Committee?" he added.
There was uproar in the Parliament on Wednesday a day after the TMC members were caught taking bribes in camera.A video was released on Monday showing 11 members of the TMC accepting bribes.
The BJP demanded resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while the CPI (M) demanded the intervention of the Election Commission.
The Congress backed the CPI (M)`s demand. The TMC has, however, dubbed the entire episode as a `concocted and fabricated` story aimed at maligning the party`s reputation ahead of the assembly polls.
"This is a concocted and fabricated story. This has been done to malign the party`s image ahead of the elections. Some political leaders have done this conspiracy. We will fight it out, the people of Bengal will decide," TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee told reporters here.
