New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Monday gave another extension to a joint committee looking into the land bill as Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the government will consider the panel's report before taking a final view on the proposed legislation.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the date for the submission of the report by the committee has been extended from November 27 to December 23, the last day of the ongoing winter session.
As she made the announcement, some Congress members were on their feet seeking a response from the government.
Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the government had said the states will be allowed to make changes to the Land Act of 2013 and the view was conveyed after the meeting of the Niti (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Naidu said the joint committee could not complete its work due to a variety of reasons and has been given two extensions.
"No final view has been taken. Once the committee gives its report, a final view will be taken. There is no confusion," he told the house.
