This is how Rahul Gandhi plans to hunt for future Congress leaders

Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is on a talent hunt.

The Gandhi scion will interview around 200 Congress members from across the country in order to identify future leaders for the party, as per a report.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, each state unit of the Congress party has been asked to forward five names.

The report also quoted sources as saying that the Congress VP has already conducted at least two rounds of interviews.

Rahul reportedly does most of the questioning, though a senior member of the Congress party is also present, who is usually a general secretary.

Candidates are asked to identify organisational weaknesses of the party and how they can be addressed.

At the same time, Rahul also tests their knowledge regarding political and socio-economic issues that are currently important.

And he takes notes throughout throughout the interview, as per sources quoted by the Daily.

The candidates are then graded based on their performance.

Those selected will supposedly be appointed party secretaries, observers, returning officers.

Some may also be given key assignment in states.

It has often been reported in the media that Rahul is keen on holding internal elections across all rungs of the organisation, including the Congress Working Committee and eliminating the nomination culture at all levels of the party has been one of his wishes for a long time.

Ahead of the 2007 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul had held interviews with ticket seekers.

Rahul initiated the exercise in the Youth Congress but it is said to not have been very successful.
