Uttarakhand crisis: BJP, Congress delegations meet President; Governor writes to Centre about 'administrative breakdown'

New Delhi: Amid ongoing political crisis in Uttarakhand, Governor KK Paul on Monday wrote a letter to the Centre about 'administrative breakdown' in the state. Paul has also sent a CD about the incidents that took place on inside the state Assembly on March 18.

Meanwhile, the delegation of BJP MLAs, headed by senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, met President Pranab Mukherjee and appealed him to dismiss the state government. However, the rebel Congress MLAs were not part of the delegation.

"We have requested the President to direct the Governor to dismiss Uttarakhand government. We have also asked the President to direct the Governor to give us time to prove our majority on the floor of the house," said Vijayvargiya after meeting the President.

On the other hand senior Congress leader Motilal Vora and former Defence Minister AK Antony also met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan and apprised him about the Uttarakhand crisis.

"We apprised President on how BJP with help from Centre has been trying to dismantle opposition's government in state particularly Congress," said Ghulam Nabi Azad after meeting the President.

"We requested the President that Congress party should be allowed to prove majority in the state Assembly on March 28 as per the previous order by the Governor," added Azad.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Harish Rawat accused BJP of spreading lies and trying to take political advantage of an internal rebellion in  the Congress party.

''BJP is trying to topple the democratically elected government here as they have been doing it in other states. An all-powerful BJP government at the Centre is clearly misusing its position to murder democracy in Uttarakhand, '' said Rawat.

Some pseudo-nationalists of BJP today have become the contractors of nationalism, he added.

The Chief Minister also accused BJP of making unverified and malicious allegations against his government for political gains.

BJP has levelled three allegations against me related to the land allotment for the smart city project and helping the mining mafia. I want to say categorically that all allegations are baseless, Rawat said.

People who are murdering democracy and trying to destabilize an elected govt in Uttarakhand have no right to level allegations against me, Rawat alleged. (With inputs from agencies)
