Video clip at the centre of JNU sedition row authentic, says CFSL

India's premier forensic lab, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), has found the video clip at the centre of the JNU sedition row to be authentic.

New Delhi: India's premier forensic lab, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), has found the video clip at the centre of the JNU sedition row to be authentic.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid, who were accused of raising anti-India slogans at an event on the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, were charged with sedition and arrested based on this video.

That the video was authentic was confirmed by a source in the Delhi Police and reported by The Hindu.

The video of the controversial February 9 event was shot by Zee News and it was later sent by the police for forensic examination to the CFSL.

“We received the report on June 8 which established the authenticity of the footage,” the newspaper quoted the source in the Delhi Police special cell as saying.

The FIR registered in the case states that a group of JNU students led by Umar Khalid, who is currently out on bail, had allegedly raised anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans in the university campus on the evening of February 9.

“When it was played, the video showed that under the leadership of Umar Khalid, the members of the gathering have been raising ‘anti-national’ slogans such as ‘Kitne Afzal maaroge, ghar ghar se Afzal niklenge’ and ‘Pakistan Zindabad’,” said the FIR.

The video was sent for forensic examination amid claims that it had been doctored.

Earlier, the CFSL lab in Gandhinagar had found to be authentic four more video clips, mainly mobile clips, of the event.
