Militant killed in overnight encounter in J&K

Srinagar: A militant was killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Handwara area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

"One militant has been killed so far. The operation is still in progress as there are inputs about presence of more militants in the area," an army official said on Sunday.

The encounter broke out in the forests of Wader Bala in Zachaldara area, 100 kms from here, yesterday after security forces launched a cordon and search operation following information about presence of militants there, the official said.

He said there were no casualties on the security forces side in the operation so far.
