Srinagar: A three-year-old boy, who was injured in a militant attack which killed his father, a former ultra, in Sopore township of north Kashmir, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on Saturday, police said.
"Burhan succumbed to the injuries in the morning," the police said.
Last night, unidentified gunmen shot at and injured a former militant Bashir Ahmed Bhat near his residence at Sagipora in Sopore area of Baramulla district.
Bhat, who had quit militancy after serving a prison term, was attacked when he was playing with his son Burhan, police said.
The militants, suspected to be of either Hizbul Mujahideen or its breakaway faction Laskhar-e-Islam, first lobbed a hand grenade, which failed to explode.
Sensing trouble, Bhat tried to escape with his son but the militants opened fire with their automatic guns injuring him and his child, the police said.
Both were rushed to hospital but Bhat succumbed to his injuries on the way, while Burhan passed away this morning.
