Kerala govt pays back to Lt. Col Niranjan Kumar, announces 50 lakh compensation, job for wife

The Kerala govt on Wednesday announced a compensation Rs 50 lakh for the family of martyred NSG commando Lt. Col EK Niranjan, who was killed in the counter-offensive against terrorists at the Pathankot air base on Sunday.

Thiruvanathapuram: The Kerala government on Wednesday announced a compensation Rs 50 lakh for the family of martyred NSG commando Lt. Col EK Niranjan, who was killed in the counter-offensive against terrorists at the Pathankot air base on Sunday.

It was also announced that the Kerala government would give job to the braveheart's wife and bear the expenses of his daughter's education.

The announcement was made a day after EK Niranjan was cremated with full state honours in Kerala.

Hundreds of people made a bee line to his ancestral home in Elumbulsherry village in Palakkad district to have one last glimpse of the brave warrior who laid down his life defending his country.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also arrived at the Elumbulsherry village and paid homage to the departed soldier.

The Kerala government was represented at the cremation by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. The state government also directed that at 11 am all the schools in the state should observe a minute`s silence in memory of Niranjan.

Various units of the air force, army and Kerala Police also bid a ceremonial farewell to the departed.

Niranjan is survived by his dentist wife Radhika, 18-month-old daughter Vismaya, father Sivarajan, step-mother and brother Shashank.
