Left leads in Thiruvananthapuram, BJP is second

There are six taluks and 14 Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram district. 

Thiruvananthapuram: The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Saturday led in the vote count for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation polls, while the Bharatiya Janata Party pushed the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to the third place.

In the 100-seat Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the CPI-M led LDF won 42 seats, the BJP 34 and the Congress 21 seats.

In comparison, in the 2010 polls, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) won 51 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party six and the United Democratic Front (UDF) 43.

There are six taluks and 14 Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram district.

The six taluks are Chirayinkeezhu, Nedumangad, Neyyattinkara, Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram and Kattakkada.

The district recorded 72.6 percent polling in the local-self government polls, lowest among the districts where the first phase of polls was held on November 02. Among the municipalities in the district, Attingal registered highest polling, 74.28 percent.
