Bombay High Court to be renamed Mumbai HC?
Union Law Ministry is likely to initiate the proposal for changing the word `Mumbai` with `Bombay` in the name of the high court here.
Mumbai: Union Law Ministry is likely to initiate the proposal for changing the word 'Mumbai' with 'Bombay' in the name of the high court here.
According to media reports, Law Minister Sadanand Gowda has given an assurance to Shiv Sena to bring the proposal in the Union Cabinet at the earliest.
Shiv Sena MP Vinayak Raut had recently raised the issue of replacement of the word 'Mumbai with Bombay' in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour.
Gowda has reportedly assured the Shiv Sena MPs that the Centre is positive about the change and the proposal in this regard will be tabled before the Union Cabinet soon for its approval.
Two weeks back, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said in the state assembly that his government was pursuing the demand for change in the name of the high court with the Centre.
The state government has also proposed to change the nomenclature of 199 laws to replace the word Bombay with Mumbai.
