Mumbai: India's financial capital was recently choked by a fire at the Deonar dumping ground.
The smoke from the fire had engulfed the city's skyline sending pollution readings to an alarming level.
Now, US space agency NASA has released satellite images of Mumbai which show the city enveloped in smog.
The fire could be seen from space and was shown spreading deeper into the Arabian Sea and coastal areas of Maharashtra.
The fire at the dumping ground had started on Friday last week and led to closure of government schools in the city.
The Deonar dumping ground, in eastern Mumbai, is spread over 326 acres. Trash at the dumping ground at some places rises to as high as 30 metres - that's equivalent to a nine-story building.
