Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Monday arrested two people in connection with the murder case of 72-year-old Right to Information (RTI) activist Bhupendra Vira.
Vira was shot dead at his residence in Kalina, Santa Cruz East, late on Saturday while he was watching television. The shooter is suspected to have used a silencer as Vira's wife, who was reportedly in the house, didn't hear anything.
Vira had led a campaign against land grabbing and illegal constructions in his colony. He had even persuaded civil officials to issue notices to a land mafia for illegal construction.
The RTI activist was attached to the 'Voice of Kalina', a citizen's group. He is survived by three children, a daughter and two sons and his wife. One of the sons had allegedly been stabbed four years ago.
The police is suspecting the involvement of land mafia behind the Vira's murder, according to a Zee News report.
