Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday condoled the death of VHP leader Ashok Singhal saying that he devoted his entire life for nation building.
"Ashokji devoted his entire life for nation building. He will be remembered for his organisational skills, commitment and devotion for a cause. He truly united all castes and communities for a stronger nation," Fadnavis said.
State Agriculture Minister Eknath Khadse said Singhal played a key role in creating spirit for "Hindutva" among people through activities like Ganga pujan and Ram Mandir agitation.
State Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said Singhal commanded respect among his followers and championed the cause of "Hindutva".
President of Hindu Ekata Andolan Party Ramsingh Bansari said, "Singhalji had a lion's share in building of VHP. We have lost a strong leadership."
Singhal, who rose to prominence playing a leading role in the Ram Janambhoomi movement in the late eighties and afterwards, died today at a private hospital in Gurgaon at the age of 89.
