Mumbai: Days after an income tax consultant killed 14 members of his own family in Thane, a report on Saturday said, Hasnain Anwar Warekar used Clozapine to sedate his kin before murdering them.
The report states that Warekar, who later hanged himself might have mixed Clozapine in a sweet dish 'falooda', which was served to the victims during dinner.
Clozapine is used for treating schizophrenia.
The gory incident took place in Thane's Kasarvadavli area when assailant Warekar slit the victims' throats with a large knife one after the other after lacing their food with drugs.
Tandoori chicken, mutton tandoor, samosa, sabudana kebab, pomfret, bread, mutton khichdi, cold drink and falooda were prepared at Warekar's place on the fateful night.
The deceased have been identified as - Zabin Hasnen Warekar (28 - wife of Hasnen), Mushadshera Hasnen Warekar (06), Umera Hasnen Warekar (3 months) (both his daughters), Anwar Warekar (55 - father), Azgadi Anwar Warekar (50 - mother), Rabina Shaukat Khan (35), Batul Anwar Warekar (30), Maria Irfan Fakki (28) (all three sisters).
The deceased also include children of the three sisters - Anas Shaukat Khan (12), Sabiya Shaukat Khan (16), Ali Hasan Shaukat Khan (05), Umer Irfan Fakki (7), Yusuf Irfan Fakki (4) and Asriya Sojef Burmal (5 months),
The lone woman survivor, identified as his sister, Sabia Yusuf Bharmal (22), was rushed to a local hospital where her condition is described as "critical".
Police are still looking for the motive behind the crime.
