Besides Mumbai, parts of central Maharashtra are also expected to receive heavy downpour.

The heavy rains are due to a low pressure area which is moving towards the western side.

IMD Mumbai Director VK Rajeev said: "This will cause very heavy rainfall in Mumbai, along with parts of Central Maharashtra, the Konkan region, Marathwada and Goa as well."

An IMD official said Colaba received 20 mm rainfall and Santa Cruz 75.2 mm during 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Friday.
