Mumbai: The unfolding events in a Jet Airways flight waiting for take-off in Mumbai Airport last Friday resembled a plot straight from a Bollywood movie.
The ruckus started when over a dozen members of a wedding party didn't turn up at the airport on time.
Other members of the group who had reached early then forcefully delayed the flight from take-off despite strong protests from the fellow passengers.
The harrowing travellers, who were not part of the group, as well as the crew pleaded with them to allow the aircraft to leave but to no avail.
The situation had come to such a boil that Jet officials had to request those who did not belong to the group to deboard in lieu of monetary compensation.
It has emerged that some of those who left the flight received Rs 10,000 each.
The Jet Airways flight 9W7083 was scheduled to fly to Bhopal from Mumbai on Friday morning.
According to media reports, the wedding party belonged to an 'influential' Gujarati business family with top 'political connections'.
Hence, the crew was forced to oblige to their request.
Some 80 people were reportedly part of the wedding party.
The fight finally took off after a delay of at least 2 hours.
Among those who had a harrowing time included a man who had come from Singapore to attend his father’s funeral.
