Surat-Nandurbar passenger train derails, no one hurt

In the mishap, two of the train coaches derailed while two other tilted.

Mumbai: Four coaches of Surat-Nandurbar passenger train derailed near Maharashtra's Nandurbar district after soil beneath the tracks got washed away due to heavy rain in the region, Western Railway said on Monday.

No casualty has been reported in the mishap.

The 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th coaches of the 12-coach 69169 MEMU passenger train derailed last night.

In the mishap, two of the train coaches derailed while two other tilted.

"The incident took place at around 11.35 PM last night when the MEMU passenger train was passing through the Dhekvad-Nandurbar section where heavy rain washed out the soil beneath the track," WR Chief PRO Ravindra Bhakar said.

"It has been found that about 400 metres of track was washed out at different locations near Nandurbar due to rain", he said.

"The DRM of Mumbai Central Division swung into action and started repairs that may take 15 to 20 hours as the affected section has to be filled with mud followed by safety precautions', he said.

"All the stranded passengers of the derailed train were taken out safely by the rescue team of Western Railway and sent to their respective destinations," Bhakar said.

"At least 12 express trains have been diverted and three passenger trains cancelled today because of the derailment", the WR said.
