New Delhi: Amidst reports of revolt, Aam Aadmi Party leaders - Shazia Ilmi and Kumar Vishwas – tried to water down the whole controversy on Wednesday.
Albeit Shazia Ilmi acknowledged that she was upset with the Aam Aadmi Party, yet she added that it was wrong to say that she has revolted against the AAP.
Clarifying her stand, Ilmi said that her tweet need not be misinterpreted.
She, however, said she wanted a seat from Delhi.
"My daughter`s exams are coming up and I wanted a seat from Delhi...I don`t know anybody in Rae Bareli and wanted a seat from Delhi.” There was a buzz in the party that Ilmi will be fielded against Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli after Kumar Vishwas was fielded against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi. Ilmi on Tuesday made it evident that she is not willing to be pitted against the Congress president. Sources said the party was keen on Ilmi taking on Sonia Gandhi, but then Ilmi was not interested. The announcement made by her on social media indicated that she is dissatisfied with the party. She also refuted reports that she was being upset with the candidature of Ashish Khetan, the journalist and founder of gulail.com, from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat in the coming election. Putting up a brave face, Ilmi said she will campaign for Khetan.
Ilmi`s comments came amidst reports that she and another AAP leader Kumar Vishwas have developed mutinous feelings, just ahead of the crucial General Elections. Reports said Kumar Vishwas and Shazia Ilmi are unhappy with the decisions related to ticket distribution taken by the AAP.
Meanwhile, Dr Kumar Vishwas has also refuted reports of his discontentment with AAP.
Talking to reporters, the poet-turned-politican said: "When the news of my differences and groupism in the party was aired, I was talking to Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia...Such news are generation of media, a section of which is trying to defame the party".
"I have got complaint that some tickets were not given to right persons, the probe into it is on and if the charges were substantiated, tickets will be cancelled", he added.
Vishwas also alleged that due to Kejriwal directly taking on BJP leader Narendra Modi, the saffron party was "afraid" now.
"The BJP is full of corrupt persons and in its desperation to grab power it was taking people like Ram Kripal Yadav", he said.
About possibility of Kejriwal contesting against Modi, Vishwas said that it would be decided by party`s election committee.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has hit out at Ilmi for not contesting against Sonia Gandhi. "AAP`s bubble was always going to burst. It has been serving as a proxy party for Congress. They made big promises and had huge claims, but haven`t fulfilled any of them. They attempted to expose others but ended up exposing themselves," said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Here is a series of tweet by Kumar Vishwas, Shazia Ilmi, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, which signalled cracks within AAP:
