New Delhi: In a September Q&A, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg got tongues wagging when he hinted at an improved like button. Rumour mongers took his statement otherwise and had a field day spreading rumours about a dislike button.
Zuckerberg, however, silenced those rumours by saying that the new button would be “empathizing”. True to his word, Zuckerberg released a video showing the all new like button with a set of emojis along with the original “thumbs up” sign to help one express themselves better on a post.
Apart from the usual “like”, the emoji's express emotions like "Love," "Haha," "Yay," "Wow," "Sad" and "Angry." All one needs to do is hover upon or hard press the like button for a couple of seconds to access the emojis.
Facebook tells us that the pop-up feature will first start out as a test for reactions in two markets only, Spain and Ireland, before it decides whether to tweak it and/or how to roll it out further.
The reason, according to techcrunch.com is that, Adam Mosseri, Facebook’s director of product, says it’s because both have largely national user bases without extensive international friend networks, so they work better as closed test groups. Ireland is English speaking, while Spain lets Facebook test out how well the wordless emoji plays with non-English users.
