The British AI company, acquired by Google in 2014, will use machine learning to detect and identify the degenerative eye conditions.

In order to test DeepMind AI technology, Moorfields is applying company's AI to one million anonymous with Optical Tomography Coherence (OCT) scan. According to Business Insider, their aim is to determine whether the algorithms can spot the early signs of eye-diseases, age-related muscular degeneration and sight loss that occurs as a result of diabetes.

The search engine giant hopes that this collaboration to develop less complex scans with greater speed and accuracy of diagnosis that will spot signs of future eye problems early than ever before.
